ROME — Registration is open for the 2025 Project Fibonacci STEAM Leadership Conference in Rome at the end of July, according to the organizers.

The conference will take place from July 27 to Aug. 2, with visits to multiple venues at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park. This year’s theme is “The Science of the Unknown: Living in a Material World.”

Using inquiry-based learning techniques, the conference will cover effective critical-thinking strategies for fact-based information sharing and discerning fact from speculation, organizers said. Topics in materials science will be covered, highlighting local industries that are researching and manufacturing modern materials for applications that span aeronautics and space travel to the fashion industry, including the world of semiconductor chips.

Group sessions will explore the influences that have led to technologies and devices in use today through the lens of science fiction literature and cinema. Inquiry-based approaches will be applied to various use cases covering topics on extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena, paranormal phenomena, and other current topics.

“It takes a village to nurture and support the growth of our young learners,” said Andrew Drozd, founder and chairman. “When community members come together, we create a stronger, more vibrant environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. By pooling our resources and efforts, we can make a significant difference in their educational and professional career journey and incentivize community revitalization.”

This is the seventh year of the leadership conference, with more than 500 students attending since 2016. There will be multiple keynote speakers and workshops, along with offsite tours of local technology, arts and academic facilities, organizers stated.

Slots for the conference are limited, and the foundation is still accepting nominations for students, officials said. Early registration is advised to secure a place in this program.
